Thing Twenty Three

Well I never thought I'd get here. Some of this has been really interesting and some sites have been very repetitive.
I thoroughly enjoyed Imaging, Flickr, del.icio.us, Library 2.0, iGoogle (I love my Google Homepage), The Google Products, Morning Coffee.
I didn't enjoy the video bits, the Reader (overwhelming), Firefox (I like Google), LibraryThing, YouTube ( nice to visit but a bit overwhelming)
There are several sites the Library could utilise to improve it's service. Library 2.0 allows you to be in contact with Libraries around the world. A Blog aimed at 15 to 19 year olds could be good. I have no idea how you would go about incorporating these sites into the Library but can see value in them.
I found I liked playing with the Blog, during this activity, but feel very wary of continuing it on a more personal level. I will continue to use iGoogle because I like the layout and has several Gadgets that appealed to me. I guess its similar to The Reader site but not as overwhelming.
If this type of activity came up again I would be interested because I have enjoyed learning new technology. This is what working in a Library is all about - keeping up with advancementss in the industry so long as they don't put me out of a job.

Thing Twenty two

This is the last site to be looked at, I never thought I'd get here.
I liked this site and joined so as to have a good look. I can see that Library Staff might find it very useful for communicating about new innovations from other libraries across the world. Some of the groups sounded interesting and it would be good to have a group for Australian Libraries.

Thing Twenty One

I have really enjoyed creating my iGoogle Homepage. I've personalised mine with the weather, a clock & calender and some news, jokes & Wikapedi. Finally, I added an artists theme with Leuing which looks fabulous. A lot of the sites throughout this time have been very repetitive but this is one I can say I will use lots.

Thing Twenty

I like Google Book Search and believe it would be very useful. I asked Caroline about public domain works and she suggested looking at Project Gutenberg. This looks like a wonderful site and am pleased to have found it.

Thing Nineteen

Google Doc looks very useful especially if you forget your USB and need to move a document from place to place. This gives you an extra option. I don't see a great difference between this and word. Though I confess I am running out of time to finish this week, so didn't give it the time it needed.

Thing Eighteen

Google Mapping is a very helpful tool. I've used it several times along with Google Earth. Being able to find your way between A & B without having to lug around the Street Directory is a bonus.
I've added the link to my favourites.

Thing Seventeen

I found the Library Blogs quite interesting. Having a Blog for 16 to 19 year olds could be very useful though how you would go about setting it up and then getting them to use it might prove difficult. I didn't like the MySpace site I would be worried about security. FaceBook, at least does not open up with photos and gives the feeling of security. Though it could be misleading.

Thing Sixteen

I've chosen a video with a cat watching herself on YouTube. I love it because the cat Calico is almost the same colour as my own cat Millie who loves to sit in front of the TV especially when a ball is moving across the screen, doesn't matter what the game is.
YouTube looks like a fun place to visit but I don't believe it is a place I would use.

Thing Fifteen

Flickr looks like fun. You could spend hours looking at all the pictures, etc. I went for some art by Bellatrix Art. It's just one of a striking set of art works which I found very interesting.

Thing Fourteen

While I am enjoying fiddling with my Blog. Technorati didn't interest me and unless I was Blogging for real it's not a site I would tend to visit.

Thing Thirteen

I am so proud of myself (well if I don't pat my back who will) because I have registered with del.icio.us, added some Bookmarks and finally made a link from my Blog to the site. Now all I have to do is go home and open up del.icio.us from there. Only ten more Things to do.

Thing Twelve

Yea I finally got the link to LibraryThing to work. This site has so much stuff going on that I got lost in several times. 19/6/08 - Well my link does work but unfortunately it says it's a private area, even to me.

Thing Eleven

This was fun once I found a site I could work with. I think "Frances's Blog" in glitter looks pretty good.

Thing Ten

This was good. I added my Blog and also my Favorite Books. I can see that you could have a lot fun if you were with a group getting ready for a fun activity or take it really seriously for a work related projected. I have to admit it took a phone call to Jason to get going, so thanks Jason.

Thing Nine

Wiki's look very interesting and I can see many advantages for library staff. I especially liked "Library Success: a Best Practice Wiki" as it has great information and ideas on procedures that have been tried from all over the world. This would be a wonderful site for library students.

Thing Eight

I have finally worked this out. iTunes and podcasts are good and I will make use of them but vodcasts doesn't interest me.

Thing Seven

Yea another Thing bites the dust.

Thing Six

Finally this Thing is done, thanks to Jason. I couldn't work out how to get it from the 23 Thing site to my Reader and in the end threw my hands up in the air and rang Jason who kindly led me through the procedures. What a painful time for him. Now I have to play catch up as I'm 2 Things behind.

Thing Five

I have done the deed and registered with Google for a RSS reader account. I wondered if this might be handy for specialist areas, in the library. For my personal use it can give me the newest crossword, movies and news items. Not very inventive but at least I know how to do it.

Thing Three

Well this has been difficult. I couldn't find the place Jason showed on the video but I did eventually manage to add Morning Coffee and Coloured Tabs to Firefox once I realised I had to install it first. I have to admit I prefer Explorer but will continue to try out Firefox.

Today is the beginning

Today is the first time I have tried to make a Blog
